Broh ball
Broh Ball is an innovative baseball and softball format featuring a triad structure where three teams (7 players each) play simultaneously: one in the Outfield (3 players), one in the Infield (5 players plus a pitcher), and one Hitting (batting with a runner on first). Teams rotate after 3 outs—Outfield to Infield, Infield to Hitting, Hitting to Outfield—with each full inning comprising three "thirds." Games last 6 innings, with a 2-hour time limit, and the team with the most runs wins. Ties are resolved with extra thirds.
Key Rules:
-
Pitching: Infield team’s pitcher throws (overhand for baseball, underhand for softball); coaches pitch if needed. Pitchers are limited to 3 innings, and unhittable pitches are called balls.
-
-
Catcher: Infield provides a catcher or uses a 9-pocket net behind home plate with an equipped player (in full gear) for live plays. No catcher means 4 infielders plus the pitcher.
-
Scoring/Outs: Standard baseball/softball rules apply for scoring and outs (strikeouts, fly balls, tag/force outs). A 5-run limit per third acts as a mercy rule. Runners can steal (unless using a net, which prohibits advancing on passed balls).
-
Field Setup: Standard field dimensions; outfielders stay beyond a marked line until the ball is hit. Bats and balls meet safety standards (baseball or 12-/11-inch softball).
-
Game Flow: Each third starts with a runner on first. Two umpires enforce rules, including hittable pitches. Substitutions occur between thirds, maintaining batting order.
-
Weather/Ties: Games are official after 3 innings; the team with the most runs wins if stopped. Ties continue with extra thirds until a winner emerges.
Benefits:
-
Engagement: All players stay active, with no team idle, ideal for youth or rec leagues.
-
Fast-Paced: Quick rotations and mercy rules keep games under 2 hours.
-
Strategy: Starting runners and dual defensive roles (Infield/Outfield) add tactical depth.
-
Accessibility: Smaller rosters (7 players) and net/coach-pitch options suit limited groups.
-
Skill Development: Players experience all game aspects, with pitching limits preventing overuse.
-
Fun: The triad format adds variety, teamwork, and excitement for all skill levels.
Broh Ball redefines baseball/softball as a dynamic, inclusive, and strategic game, fostering participation, skill growth, and fun for players and spectators alike.
